WHAT THIS CONCERT IS ABOUT: I grew up with songs from the Great American Songbook and Broadway because my dad was a working musician in the 40s thru 60's, and there were always rehearsals or musical parties in our home. My sisters and I grew up singing together, and we performed around Reno. I started piano lessons at 5, percussion at 12, songwriting at 14, and classical voice training at 17. With degrees in Music and Theater - and LOTS of Reno/Tahoe gigs under my belt - I went on to a career in music and theater. Throughout my journey, I kept coming back to songs from the Great American Songbook. I just loved the depth of feeling of these songs that were written with such rich story lines, honest love songs, heartbreaking ballads, funny innuendos, danceable grooves and well-crafted music. Over my 45 years of making music, most of my choices are because of the brilliant songwriters that created this music throughout the 1930s to the 1960s.

So... I hope you will feel charmed by the nuanced fancy, sassy, clever and humane language of lyricists Dorothy Fields, Oscar Hammerstein, Johnny Mercer, Yip Harburg, Alan Jay Lerner, Lorenz Hart and Ira Gershwin. We want you to be enthralled by the musical beauty, emotion and of composers George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, Jerome Kern, Jimmy McHugh, Hoagy Carmichael, Richard Rogers, Duke Ellington, and Frederick Loewe. And THEN there’s the ones who do BOTH - compose music AND lyrics - like Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. They just don’t make songs like these anymore, and we hope to revive them with our jazzy renditions and heartfelt ballads.

HOW WE ARE HELPING OUR COMMUNITY: For this concert we will be donating 10% of our ticket sales to the Note-Able Music Therapy Services, a fantastic organization that I first supported when they started in 1999, and continued working with over 15 years. Note-Able Music Therapy Services started in 1999 as a music class at the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living. The class quickly became the performing group, The Note-Ables. Then, in 2003 The Note-Ables became a nonprofit and began providing music therapy and adaptive music, along with the performance group. The Note-Ables became an independent nonprofit organization for three main reasons: The number of people with disabilities who wanted to participate The growing demand from the community for Note-Ables’ performances No other organizations provided musical opportunities for people with disabilities Until January of 2012, Note-Able Music Therapy Services was officially know as The Note-Ables. Even though the organization had been providing music therapy services since it started, the name did not reflect this. As programs grew, the staff and board realized they needed to raise awareness of music therapy. One of the first steps in that process was to change the name of The Note-Ables to include the words ‘music therapy.’ Current services include music therapy, neurologic music therapy, guided imagery and music, music and dance classes, adaptive lessons, and community performances throughout the region. 

In early 2022 our organization purchased a one-story, 17,000 square foot building on three acres, equipped with classrooms, performance areas, and outdoor spaces for people to explore and enjoy. Once fully renovated, this new building will allow us to grow our services to match the rapidly growing demand for music therapy in northern Nevada.

It's the 20th ANNUAL Jazz & Beyond Festival in Carson City, and the Jazzettes are back in it again this year! We're playing an hour-long jazzy set on Sunday, August 20th at 4PM at the Legislative plaza. Check out their website for all the details (bands, dates, times, events, etc.) during their 11-DAY festival - August 11 thru the 21st! Local musicians and artists everywhere!

This will be our first time playing together at the Midtown bar. We'll be playing for a birthday party there, but the doors will be open to everyone! The Jazzettes are: Erika Paul on piano, Julie Machado on Bass and me on percussion, with all of us singing (solos and harmonies) and having a LOT of fun with a mixed genre of mostly music of jazz, Great American Songbook, Blues, R&B, easy rock, and some originals. Now in our 5th year together, we are sounding pretty tight and sassy! Midtown bar has a wonderful ambience, great cocktails and delicious small plates menu.

I LOVE the great songs in this show, and the message that no matter how hard and awkward and compromising love relationships can be, in the long run we need them - to grow, to learn, and to feel alive. The part of Joanne was played by Elaine Stritch on Broadway, and recently by Patti Lupone in the revival - I think I've got some big shoes to fill! But I'm really looking forward to it! The 50th anniversary of SHEEP DIP! - ~~~ the biggest little craziest community satire show in the world! 2 NIGHTS! January 17th and 18th at 8:00 at the famous Nugget Showroom!

  WHAT IS SHEEP DIP??? The name Sheep Dip is drawn from Nevada's early heritage of sheep herding in the Sierra Nevada. Sheep Dip is a cleansing element in which sheep are literally dipped. Today we dip our newsmakers in the satirical vat of Sheep Dip to cleanse them of their past deeds...so that they may go right back and be foolish again! Begun by members of the advertising agencies and media in Reno, this annual fundraiser show, dedicated to exposing the follies and foibles of the Truckee Meadows in an evening of skits, songs and dance, is performed by area locals (your neighbors) along with members of the media and even a few of our famous (and infamous) politicians. Together efforts go to raise funds that support charitable activities in the RENO/SPARKS and Greater Northern Nevada Area. Sheep Dip, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. My dad, Don "Snoshu" Thompson, was involved in Sheep Dip as a writer, performer, and director for over 30 years. I performed with him in the cast since I was about 12 years old for several years, and have come back now and then as a guest performer. The 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra will rock the 615-seat theatre-style house with guests singers Cami Thompson and Kenn Pettiford, the brilliant internationally-acclaimed tap dancer Sam Weber, and professional dancers from Sierra Nevada Ballet presenting selections from Duke Ellington's jazz version of "The Nutcracker Suite". The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform as well, showing us that jazz is indeed alive and well and growing in Northern Nevada. Nevada Opera presents Jukebox Unhinged  (formerly Jukebox Opera), a musical evening of live performances and incredible food! At Jukebox Unhinged, you bid to choose which musical numbers our members of the Nevada Opera chorus perform. Cocktail hour starts at 5:30PM, dinner will be served at 7:00PM.  Pieces selected by your bids will be performed throughout the entire evening starting with selected Jazz numbers during cocktail hour and moving on to Opera and Broadway numbers during dinner and dessert.  NVO chorus members will be available to discuss the selections available and bid sheets will be at each place setting. In addition, we will have a wonderful selection of raffle prizes to give away.

The summer will sizzle in blue hot notes this August in Carson City as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, local businesses, and music lovers prepare for "Jazz and Beyond!" Carson City Music Festival.  Jazz and Beyond! will open with a "Garden Party at the Mansion," a ticketed event at the Governor's Mansion on Friday, August 2, 5:30p.m til 7:30. Admission features 2 sets of music by the incomparable vocalist Cami Thompson and her jazz trio - Peter Supersano, Joe McKenna, and Steve Self. There will be finger foods, wine and beer, and a raffle. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Tickets are available online at JazzCarsonCity.com, and in Carson City at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, and the Purple Avocado on Curry Street. What began in 2004 has blossomed into a full-fledged jazz festival with multiple venues in Carson City that will feature more than 100 musicians representing at least 50 bands. Music styles include Dixieland jazz, big band, bluegrass, Latin, blues, folk, and more. Events are scheduled August 2 to 18, and most are free. Outstanding musicians will play for the festival at Third Street, the Farmers Market, Comma Courtyard, Carson Mall, the Brewery Arts Center, the Legislative Plaza and Capitol Amphitheater, Plan: b microlounge, and other locations in Carson City. Featured big bands are the Reno Jazz Orchestra, Mile High Jazz Band, and RoseBud's Dance Band. Sierra Nevada Ballet presents a magical Artown evening of dance and song on Reno's Wingfield Amphitheater stage, under the stars at the edge of the Truckee River.  Musical numbers with ballet and modern dance and songs sung by the ever popular Cami Thompson with music played live by her trio. The program showcases an exciting cast of SNB professional dancers led by international dance stars and guest artist SAM WEBER,world-renowned tap dancer.
