Welcome to "the world of expiring minds - a snappy little revue about the collapse of culture, the demise of language and meaning, and the anxiety of lives cut loose from their moorings and set adrift on a sea of medical wastes."

"Six Women with Brain Death" is a twisted look at feminine issues via a compilation of musical sketches created from tabloid headlines, soap operas, junk food, like: “Overweight Prom Queen Candidate Loses Crown!” “Housewife Keeps Severed Head On Cake Plate!” “Bambi Goes Haywire in Forest With Uzi!” To the expiring mind of a modern American woman, life can read like a tabloid headline.

What is the show about? Uhhhh -  try this review from 'Talkin' Broadway'... "It's sketch comedy so schizophrenic it should wear five straitjackets. It's The Threepenny Opera having its period. It's "Jacques Brel is Dead and In Terrible Shape and Living Underground". It's the theatrical equivalent of genetic mutation. It's brilliant. It's bewildering. It's ghastly. It's glorious. It's a floor wax. And a dessert topping....  A description of anything that happens - assuming anything does happen, which is somewhat in doubt - would be of no earthly use to anyone with a fully functioning brain. The show is best experienced in writing as it is in the theater, as a series of disconnected images: A woman singing a duet with a cherished soap star about the benefits (or perils) of flying Lufthansa; a pastoral forest scene interrupted by a machine gun-toting deer named Rambi; a high school reunion held somewhere between Fifth Avenue and the Fifth Circle of Hell; a blonde's head singing a country spiritual while on a silver tray; a Barbie and Ken wedding complete with plastic copulation; and a convention of literal tinfoil hat wearers proclaiming God to be an alien.”

From "GuidetoMusicalTheatre.com":  This wild and womanly 'right-on' look at our contemporary culture has already become a cult classic in the USA. Tackling a large range of subjects from "genuine press-on nails" to Barbi and Ken with detours through a forest where Bambi meets Rambo and severed heads from aging prom queens have a chatty after-life decapitation, Six Women With Brain Death is a hard-rockin', harder-talkin' (the language is appropriate to the "grown-up" material and we disclaim all responsibility) six-woman roller-coaster ride through the end of the millennium, but the scattered firing finds its targets with uncanny accuracy! Songs include "David, Don't Fly Lufthansa", "Prom Queen" and "Rambi".

I am thrilled and excited to call Bruka "home" for a few months. I LOVE this awesome, ground-breaking theater, and I love the people who work and create and thrive there. I'm having a blast!! Thank you, Mary Bennett!

Cami under the Rainbow Cami on the Beach Cami and Scotty Cami sings - photo by Karen Hutton

Romance, loneliness, sex, obsession, addiction, forgiveness, pleasure, acceptance, service, joy! --- just some of the facets of the musical stories I will be telling in this new musical expose’  of my living under the negative influences of selfish, insecure love, and learning to let go and trust in the postive influence of pure Love.  It’s a new concert exploring my personal journey through all its various expressions.

As I have been choosing the songs for this show from writers across several decades and genres, I realize my personal struggles seem to be quite universal! I know my own songs will tell their stories -- I’m nervously excited to share some of my writing with you!  But I am mostly relying on the insightful material of some of my favorite artists (like Bonnie Raitt, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler, Babs, KD Lang, Jennifer Holliday, Heart, Todd Rundgren) and diverse songwriters to help reveal some of the questions, delusions, agonies, mistakes, delights, pitfalls, recognitions, revelations, and new intentions we all make under the influence of love.

This show will contain some adult themes and material, and might not be suitable for younger audiences.

Accompanied by my wonderful and diverse trio - pianist Peter Supersano, bassist Joe McKenna, and percussionist Eric Middleton, and there will be several wonderful generous local singers joining me as well!  We will weave pop, rock, R&B, jazz and theatrical songs into a colorful tapestry of love’s many shades.

Tickets: $18 Seniors/Students, $20 General, and $25 at the Door

We will be video-taping, so bring your best applause!

I am having so much fun putting together this show!! I took a long look at all the musicals I have had the great fortune to play in – over my 40 years doing this!! -- and have picked some of my absolute favorite songs, and I hope some of yours! This show will be a full-length 2-Act concert featuring about 24 Broadway musical selections.  I’ve chosen songs from several of my characters in shows such as “Sweeney Todd”, “Mame”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, “Hair”, “Showboat”, and “Annie”, as well as some shows I wish I could do (like "Sunset Boulevard", "Jekyll and Hyde", "Porgy and Bess", and "Spamalot!") and some classics from the pens of Oscar Hammerstein, the Gershwins, Sondheim, Kander and Ebb, and more!

I will sing most of these songs as their writers intended, and some I will experiment with, conveying my love of jazz, blues, rock, R&B and gospel to tell MY story in the music. I will be accompanied by my dear friends and long-time musical collaborators - pianist Peter Supersano and bassist Joe McKenna, with a some occasional help from some backing tracks.

I can hardly wait till this Sunday to sing and act them out for you! I really hope you and your family and friends can share this rare night with us!

Tickets: $18 Seniors/Students, $20 General, and $25 at the Door

My dear Reno friend, trumpeter John Gronberg - now the music teacher at a high school in Oregon, recommended me for this school jazz festival 2 years ago in Roseburg OR, and they have asked me back!

Students from about 6-7 schools come to share their work and mock-compete to prepare for larger competitions. I'll present a vocal clinic, and coach each of the middle school and high school choirs and soloists throughout the day. Then at 7PM I'll perform in concert with the Umpqua College quartet, their vocal jazz ensemble, and with John's high school big band, too!  This concert is open to the public, tickets are cheap ($7 each or $15 for a family!), and its a fun night for all the family.

Here is a review of my 2011 performance at this delightful event...

(775) 829-0600 [map]
Price: $15/ $12 Seniors/ $10 Students

TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR STARTING AT 4:00!

Cami Thompson presents her (mostly) annual "Holiday Evening with Cami and Friends" at the Steinway Piano Gallery, 500 E. Moana Lane, Reno NV at 5:00PM in the large open showroom. Steinway Gallery hosted this concert in 2007, the year they opened their doors in Reno, and Cami has been friends with owners Lamis and Arlen Pritchard ever since! Their joyful generosity to the music world of Reno has been a blessing to our community!

Cami first started this concert series in 1995 in a Peppermill Casino convention room, and it has worked its way around several Reno venues over the course of 18 years, including the Lear Theater, Sparks Victorian Square, Pioneer Center, and Harrah's Showroom.

This special non-denominational/multi-spirituality Holiday concert will feature Cami in an intimate setting with her jazz trio: Peter Supersano will play piano on his favorite 9-foot Steinway, Joe McKenna will work that bass, and Tony Savage will provide the rhythm for our voyage. Selections will come from Cami's "Colors of Christmas" CD, seasonal favorites, and winter romance classics.

Sponsored by Nevada Opera, there will also be appearances by Nevada Opera Chorus members (who sang with Cami last year in her portion of the Nevada Opera Christmas Concert at the Pioneer, and just recently in "Sweeney Todd") and the Nevada Opera Youth Chorus.

Cami's soaring vocals and unique sense of humor, wit, compassion, and deep spiritual beliefs will warm hearts and renew sprits. Bring the whole family -- kids, visiting guests, in-laws -- and be prepared for a little caroling yourselves, as their will always be a sing-along at the end. Dress up in your favorite holiday sweater or frills and frocks for a lovely sit-down concert, followed by a reception with Cami and Friends.

WeTAKE HEART from your generosity and cannot do it without you.

Here is a testimonial about the incredible work of Bread & Roses by Board member and volunteer performer Toby Nady. I think it tells the story quite well as to why as a community we need to support this organization:

"If there’s a universal language, it’s definitely the language of MUSIC. On one level or another we all speak it, we all understand it, we all respond to it. In fact, in many ways, music conveys much more to us than words ever can:  The capacity of music to uplift us, comfort us, teach us things we never knew—or  things we always knew—is unique and remarkable.   The ability of music to heal—emotionally, spiritually, physically—is nothing short of magical.

Music enables me to share the very best in me with the best in you.  This is what Bread & Roses does day in and day out. It’s what Mimi Farina cared so deeply about and what has made her legacy so strong and enduring.  Everyone has experienced it…whether you play music or listen to it, or both. But why?  You can’t define it.  You can’t put a price tag on it. You can’t even really equate it with anything else in our lives.  Although you can try…it’s sort of like the most delicious meal you can imagine after days of not eating.  Or someone reaching out to hold your hand.  Or finding love where you least expect it.  Music transports you, takes you to a different place, a place so intrinsically human it can make you cry.

I know many of you have not had the privilege of attending a Bread & Roses performance in one of the many  hospital rooms, homeless shelters, drug rehabs or other facilities to witness firsthand how transforming the Bread & Roses experience truly is… “the healing that takes place when a performer and audience meet heart-to-heart”, as Bonnie Raitt, a longtime Bread & Roses supporter has described it.  As a performer, I can tell you without a doubt, people need musicpeople need Bread & Roses.  Bread & Roses is a great gift to our community, their work is profound, it connects us all."

That about says it all! Hope to see you there.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan.Based on the 1967 film of the same nameThoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China. The style of the musical is comic pastiche.

After auditions at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California in October 2000, the show opened on Broadway in April 2002.The production subsequently won six 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Due to the success of the original Broadway production, there were both a United States tour and a West End production launched in 2003, followed by a United Kingdom tour in 2005. The musical has since become a popular choice for high school productions.

2020 Addison Street
Berkeley California [map]
Price: Private event

I have been blessed to participate in the Bread and Roses shows for over 10 years now. I donate my time to sing at various senior care centers around the Bay Area, and the experiences have been so gratifying. I've worked with wonderful pianists like Si Perkoff, his son Max Perkoff, "The Duchess" Miss Gini Wilson, and Ross Gualco. We have a great time sharing what we love, and for this we get to meet a bunch of other artists who also give their time, and share what they love, and have a party of music and food and joy.

Mine is a good life.

This the 7th Annual Valentines event for The Note-Ables, a nonprofit organization that provides musical opportunities for adults and children with disabilities.

Cami and RJO have performed several times for this event, and in 2006 this evening was digitally recorded on 24 tracks. Cami has just released her 6th CD, "Swing! Swang! Swung!" -  14 songs from that night which were edited and mastered into a seamless concert-style album. Guests can buy this new CD at the event, and $4 from each CD sale will be donated to the Note-Ables.

If you can't attend, purchase the CD on Cami's website before March 1st,  and the donation will be made as well.

Guests will be enthralled by the evening's offering of classic American standards, unique jazz tunes, romantic ballads, and high-energy big band numbers. The theme for this year is The Roaring 20s!

The Note-Ables will perform several songs at the start of the evening. Then guests can take to the floor to the swinging sounds of the Big Band Era and 1920's nostalgia. Period attire welcome! So play along -dress up in flappers dresses, boas, striped suits and spats!

In addition to unforgettable music, guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, desserts, complimentary champagne, lots of dance space, a spectacular silent auction, and Cami's live "scat-auction" of 2 fabulous "Stay and Play" packages from the Atlantis, as well as the fundraising auction.

To purchase tickets, please call The NoteAbles at (775) 324-5521, or visit their website and purchase via PayPal. Tickets can then be mailed to you, or you can pick them up at Will Call or at the Note-Ables office.

In the past few years, this wonderful event has almost sold out. Many of our guests declared it was the best event they had been to in YEARS! So get your tickets early - and get those dance shoes dusted off! This is THE Valentine's event to attend!

Or visit www.note-ables.org

"Music is a gift, and everyone with a love of music should to be able to express themselves with it," Thompson said, "That is why this performance with The Note-Ables is so special -- to make sure these musicians can continue to sing, play instruments, write songs and perform."

I'll be conducting a 2-hour workshop on singing and self-expression for the AWESOME women who work and volunteer at Bread and Roses. I hope to do more workshops like this for more community organizations.

Bread & Roses is dedicated to uplifting the human spirit by providing free, live, quality shows to people who live in institutions or are otherwise isolated from society.

Bread & Roses brings hope and healing through live music to isolated individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our performances uplift the spirits of children undergoing chemotherapy, teens battling substance abuse, families in homeless shelters, seniors nearing the end of life transition, and others living apart from friends and family while facing challenging times. Bread & Roses performances uplift the spirits of individuals living in hospitals, senior convalescent homes, AIDS facilities, special needs schools, shelters for the abused or homeless and other agencies serving children, teens, adults and elders.

Where dreams have been abandoned and joy is in short supply, Bread & Roses is life-affirming.

Singer Cami Thompson sang with the MVJO on both of its CDs and has performed many concerts with the band, as well as with her own groups. Equally comfortable with jazz, swing, big band, blues and ballads she has been described as singing "with the clarity of a Barbara Cook, the range and control of a Cleo Laine, and the emotional impact of a Lena Horne." She will amaze you with her 4-octave voice of great beauty, control and passion, her zany wit and her humorous interaction with her listeners. AND she will have a brand new big band CD available at this concert - its California debut... "Swing! Swang! Swung!" -- 14 tracks of powerful, swingin' classics from the 30's, 40's 50s and beyond, beautifully recorded live in concert with the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

This CD is also now available for sale on her website if you can't make the show... www.CamiThompson.com/products

Leader Mike Vax is an Oakland native. He has led a big band off and on since his days at College of the Pacific over 45 years ago. A few of his credits include being first trumpet, and soloist of the Stan Kenton Orchestra, leading the Dukes of Dixieland in New Orleans; producing over 40 jazz festivals; and performing workshops for more than 2500 schools all over the world. He is currently an International Artist for the Getzen Musical Instrument Company.

The current MVJO is made up of musicians from many of the most famous big bands, such as: Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Clark Terry, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway, Ray McKinley, and Tex Beneke. These musicians are some of the finest to reside in the Bay Area. Guest jazz artists have included Lennie Niehaus, Terry Gibbs and Pete Rugolo. In the past few years, the group has performed at De La Salle High School, Campolindo High School, Valley View Middle School, for the Orinda Rotary and most recently at Diablo Valley College.

BACKGROUND: The historic Rheem Theatre in Moraga was built in the late 50's by Donald Rheem and was originally a single screen movie palace with a large stage and dance floor that is often used to this day. It was closed during the 70's, and reopened as a performing arts venue in the 80's. Though the theatre has been consistently updated, it still retains its original art deco feel with Zodiac Style art in each house.

Friends of Big Band Jazz is the support group for the MVJO. This nonprofit corporation has sent students to summer jazz camps on scholarships and donated funds to many high school music programs (over $40,000.00 so far). For more information about the concert itself, call 925-253-5424

Peter Supersano and I have been performing for this event for over 6 years, entertaining the attendees with jazzy songs from the Great American Songbook and beyond. I also serve double-duty at the event - I perform as the live auctioneer with my wacky unique style of musical improvisation for each item. There is also a silent auction with one-of-a-kind art pieces, unusual jewelry, gift baskets and special services. This is a delightful Sunday afternoon with old friends and new acquaintances, music, wine, beer, snacks and fun!

YA GOTTA put these dates on your calendar for one of the best swingin' jazz festivals in America today!
OCTOBER 13-17, 2010 -- and I get to be a part of it again. I first attended this festival singing with Mike Vax's band back in 1992, and I've been in love with this event ever since. I used to ski here when I was younger (raced there in 1988) but now it's all about the music, baby!

This time I will be the guest artist with The Hot Tomatoes out of Denver Colorado.

Fundraiser for Randi Thompson For State Assembly District 31 - 3:00Pm to 5:00PM

Write back if you are interested in attending
Reno Nevada [map]
Price: $150 donation

My amazing sister Randi Thompson is running for State Assembly District 31 in Reno-Sparks, NV. To support and honor her commitment to our community, and to help her raise funds for the last surge of her campaign, I am giving an intimate private concert with my accompanist Peter Supersano in the beautiful home of a Reno celebrity athlete... name withheld for their privacy. If you are interested in attending, please write me back, or call my sister at 775-830-8407.

To learn more about Randi and her background, experience, community service, and positions, please visit her website. If you cannot attend but would like to support her, you can make secure donations on her website: http://www.randithompson.com/
Remember, democracy is not a spectator sport; participation is required for a level playing field; not all players are equal; many of our ancestors sacrificed their lives for the right to vote.

Randi is extraordinary... and I'm only slightly prejudiced!... I hope you can join us.

Fundraiser for Reno Tahoe Choral Ambassadors - 6:30 Doors, 7:30 concert

University of Nevada Fine Arts Building
Reno Nevada 800-225-2277 [map]
Price: $25 /$40 with "Meet Cami" recept

I will be performing a special benefit jazz concert with my trio at the beautiful Nightingale Concert Hall on the University of Nevada campus on Tuesday May 11 at 7:30. Doors open at 6:30 with a Silent Auction in the Gallery lobby. This concert is to help raise funds for the THREE Reno vocal groups going to Shoaxing, China this summer for the 2010 World Choir Games: McQueen High School Core Jazz Choir, Bella Voce, and Sierra Nevada Children's Choir. My hometown Reno has been chosen to be the host city for the 2011 festival, so we NEED to get them to China to represent Reno this summer.... hence the title "Reno-Tahoe Choral Ambassadors." http://www.interkultur.com/competitions-festivals/world-choir-games/
Funds for this "once-in-a-lifetime" experience must be paid by May 13 to cover travel, room and board and tuition costs, so this concert is a much-needed rally to that end.

I'm thrilled to share the stage with Peter Supersano on grand piano, Hans Halt on bass and Steve Self on drums; also the McQueen Jazz Choir and I will do some songs together. After the concert there will be a ticketed reception to meet... well, me - the artist!.. and some of the singers planning on going to China.

ABOUT FRIENDS OF BIG BAND JAZZ:
Friends of Big Band Jazz is the support group for MVJO and MVBB (big band - Stan Kenton band alumni). This nonprofit corporation has sent students to summer jazz camps on scholarships, donated funds to the Oakland Youth Orchestra, and raised money for Oakland Parks and Recreation and supports the Al "Jazzbeaux" Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund with proceeds from its CDs, "Alternate Route" (with Cami), "BIGBANDJAZZ.NET" (also with Cami), "LIVE...On The Road", "Sounds from the Road", "Next Stop, LIVE On The Road" and latest release "Have Band Will Travel".

The goals of Friends of Big Band Jazz, the MVJO, and MVBB are to perform meaningful music, talk about the importance of the jazz heritage in America, bring jazz music to young people, and to offer our audiences a relaxed, entertaining atmosphere. The MVJO rehearses and performs a jazz concert series at The Longfellow School For Performing Arts in Berkeley, California, as well as performing at the Woodminster Amphitheater and the Calvin Simmons Theater, also in Oakland. The MVJO has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Filoli Mansion Concert Series, Yoshi's and Kimball's, plus many other venues in Northern California. HISTORY OF RHEEM THEATER:
The Rheem Theatre was built in the late 50's by Donald Rheem and was originaly a single screen movie palace with a large stage and dance floor which the theatre retains and often uses to this day. It was closed during the 70's, and reopened as a performing arts venue in the 80's. Bay Area General Theater Auditions - 3:30

Price: private

Hey, just asking for your good wishes and thoughts on this date - I was selected to participate in the 2010 Bay Area General Theater Auditions, an annual Equity (actor's union)-sanctioned event where about 350 actors are seen by 100-150 auditors representing 80-90 large to small West Coast theatre companies, as well as independent directors and casting directors.
I get really nervous at auditions, so your prayers, kind thoughts, and supportive energy would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance - I'll do the same for you!

Price: No cover

While the delightful saxman Philip G. Smith is on vacation, I have been asked to fill in one night with his fantastic trio of Tom Shader (bass) Ross Gualco (piano) and Kendrick Freeman(drums). Not only are these guys excellent musicians, but they also sing harmonies like nobody's business - all arranged by Mr. Shader. We sing things like CHOO CHOO CHA BOOGIE, WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MADE, MOOD INDIGO, I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU, SEND FOR ME, DINDI, CENTERPIECE, etc. I brought these wonderful players with me to the Mammoth Lakes Jazz Jubilee this summer, and we had a ball!

So grab a friend or a dance partner and enjoy one of the best nights out in the wine country - excellent Italian food, an amazing wine list, terrific musicians, and your truly = ever-so-grateful to get to do what I love to do with people I love and admire!

Cami will perform Monday evening July 27th with the phenominal Reno Jazz Orchestra, celebrating the music of some of America's great songwriters of the AmericanSongbook. ABOUT ARTOWN:
Artown brings the outer reaches of imagination to the center of attention in a calendar noted by the National Endowment for the Arts as one of the most comprehensive festival offerings in the country. Each July, Artown asks all who will to leave the beaten path for arts unknown, to join with distinguished artists from down the street, across the country, and around the world for a month-long celebration of cultural diversity and artistic innovation. To experience the best and the latest in visual, performing and humanities arts-more than 350 events, all counted-from those who want nothing more than to entertain, to inspire, and yes, to impress the 350,000 people that experience our festival annually.

I've been asked to perform in the annual Artown Summer Jazz Series sponsored by Reno's jazz society, "FOR THE LOVE OF JAZZ" (FTLOJ), founded in 1974. One of my first public performances was in 1976 when FTLOJ invited me (at 18!) to open for Louis Bellson's concert. So this group feels like HOME to me! Please join us for a beautiful sunset and cocktails by the pool with my jazz trio: Peter Supersano, piano; Joe McKenna, bass; and Steve Self, drums.

For the Love of Jazz is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)3 Nevada corporation formed in May of 1974 by a small group of jazz musicians and enthusiasts. These first members came together to develop opportunities to perform outside of the showroom big bands. They wanted to play their own charts and jam together, quite literally "for the love of jazz!" FTLOJ is cultivating a community appreciation and love of jazz by providing and promoting opportunities for our community to learn about, participate in, and listen to live performance and educational activities by local, regional and national jazz artists. FTLOJ also provides additional educational opportunities for area students and assistance to other organizations interested in providing jazz activities in our community.

And let me tell you - there is nothing like a summer night at Lake Tahoe!

ABOUT BOB NEWHART - legendary comedian, monologist, storyteller, television star and master of the one-sided phone conversation! For over four decades Bob Newhart has been a standout among the greatest of America's favorite comedians. His career began after serving in the US Army when he went to work as an accountant and advertising copywriter. To enliven the drudgery of their daily routine, Newhart and colleague and pal Ed Gallagher invented comic phone conversations to entertain themselves and other co-workers. They taped some of their conversations and created a local nightclub act. The rest - as they say - is History! He is now 79 years old and I hear he's still as funny as ever! http://www.bobnewhart.com/

WOW! What a fantastic weekend I just had! It started with a wonderful trio gig at the Penthouse of the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco with Max Perkoff on piano and Dartanyan Brown on bass - sweet little jazzy gig! The gorgeous tiled 8th floor patio overlooked the glistening city under a fog-wisped full moon! Then I packed up and hauled it over the mountain to South Shore of Lake Tahoe. I arrived there safely around 3AM, got a few hours of sleep at 6300' to acclamate to the altitude, then hit the rehearsal with the Tony Savage Orchestra on the main stage of the famous South Shore Showroom at 1:00 Saturday with a mix of fear, anxiety, breathlessness and determination. Sandy's calming words and healing prayer helped bring me back to myself and let God back in to run things! After our 90 minutes of running through my 5 songs, we took a break - the guys returned shortly to run through the intro and exit music for Mr. Bob Newhart - a very kind as well as hilarious gentleman!

Getting all gussied up ( in my private "star" dressing room!) with the delightful and able assistance of the Divine Miss Elfie, wardrobe mistress to the stars!, and wearing a dark red satin gown, I "hit the big boards" at 7:30 and -- much to my astonished delight - pretty much nailed my 20-minute show!!!!

I rarely get to say that after a performance, since I ALWAYS find something wrong with what I did.
But this time, I pretty much got it all right ----- maybe not as powerful as I usually sing, but at that altitude I was happy not to pass out!

Let's see - to recount (if you are at all still interested by this point... ) with the screaming 10-piece band under the direction of drummer-leader Tony Savage, a band comprised mostly of friends I have known and played with over the years (some my whole life!) , I think we tore up my opener, Sammy Davis Jr.'s version of "Come Back to Me"; then we slithered into Dianne Schuur/Count Basie's sexy version of "I Caught a Touch of Your Love", with me teasing many surprised men in the front row; next up was a comedy version of "Unforgettable" that my girlfriends wrote about our various weight worries, entitled "Undefattable" -- got a few good laughs with that one; then a lovely Streisand ballad from Yentl- "The Way He Makes Me Feel" (which I recorded with Mike Vax Big Band 4 or 5 years ago...); and I closed the show with lots of thank you's, and then sang my gospel-y version of "Over the Rainbow"... I was so thrilled to see that it brought a few folks to their feet, as well as a pretty lengthy round of applause from the over 700 folks in attendance. My sister Randi reminded me that most of them were not expecting an opening act, especially not something like me, so she thinks many were still rather shocked by the whole scene of a larger-than -life singer with a big band!

And then right on into Bob Newhart's show the night went...
I had to stand in the wings for a bit and breathe it all in! Hugged some of the wonderful musicians, whom I will now list, because what I do is pretty empty and meaningless without them: Drums/band leader - Tony Savage, Bass - Hans Halt, Piano - nationally acclaimed jazz artist Jim Martinez, Saxes - Ron Starr, Jim Garaventa, Lawrence Connell, Frank Benvenuto; Trumpets - Paul Lenz, Maurice Montgomery; Trombone - Rich Lewis. You guys ROCK! Thank you Thank you Thank you!

AND -- Harrah's Entertainment program director Butch Austin and his team treated me like a queen - my 1th floor hotel suite was lovely --- bigger and prettier than my apartment! I had a "star" dressing room: my name was on a bronze plaque on the door (which they gave me to keep!), it had a lounge room for guests (my posse!) , a mirrored dressing room and vanity and with a full bathroom - just awesome! I had an expense account for meals and drinks, AND they paid me too! Man o man, I want this more often, please!!!

So thank you Universe! I LOVED this weekend and would like more like that!

And thank you so much to my friends and fans who weathered the rain and come to the show - I hope you enjoyed even a smidgen as much as I did!!!

Much Love,
Cami

St. Francis Yacht Club

Opening Day On The Bay - 3:30PM

San Francisco [map]
Price: Private event for club members

Once again, it's Opening Day On The Bay for the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. I'm invited back to share song with the revelers and some great musicians. Hope some of you are members - or know a member - so you can share the sounds of music, and the sights of the spectacular sunset views under the Golden Gate Bridge and and across the sail-filled Bay.
